If you have older preschoolers give them the liberty to build it how they’d like, by giving them the materials and letting them engineer and build on their own!Ħ- Let your little ones, with their hands, place the wet seeds all over the sponges.ħ- Pour a little water into the bottom of your plate so water can soak into the bottom sponge.Ĩ- Place a clear (like a rubbermaid container) of your sprout house and set in a window sill to create a green house affect. You are teaching the basics of Engineering for Preschoolers through letting them build their sponge sprout house. This creates stability! This step can be hard so your little preschoolers may need a helping hand! TIP* lets be honest you can’t go wrong building your sponge sprout house, however you’d like!!! I’m just showing you our process for preschoolers.Ĥ- Next using the two toothpicks, push through the bottom sponge, next the second sponge and so forth. (to snag all of our FREE STEAM printables click HERE) Sponge Sprout House Materials Needed:įREE Sprout House Science Log/Journal ( black/white or color)ġ- Place one sponge on a glass plate as the base of your sprout house and insert a tooth pick on either side.Ģ- Cut a sponge in 1/2 and use one half of the sponge for your second layer.ģ- Cut another sponge in 1/4’s and use one 1/4 to top off your sprout house.
